When a Word Appears

Some days a word arrives early and then refuses to leave me be. It follows along quietly at first, then begins turning up in the most unexpected places, as if it has taken it upon itself to tap my shoulder until I pay attention. This week, as I lifted my lantern and felt the path rise gently up the hill, one word kept flickering at the edges of everything: SPARK.

I have learned not to argue too long with such companions. When a word persists, it is often carrying a small lantern of its own. It may not reveal the whole road, but it can light the next few steps. And since I am never truly alone on these little expeditions of the page, I thought I would gather the glowing bits here for you too, in case this word wishes to walk beside you as well.

The S.P.A.R.K. Prompts

S — Story
Story invites me to honor both my lived moments and my imagined ones. It reminds me that even the smallest part of a day may be worth preserving.

What is a moment from today that deserves to be told in my story?

P — Presence
Presence calls me back into my body, my breath, and my senses. Here, now, I can notice what the day is saying before it slips by unnamed.

Here and now, what are my senses aware of? What do they say about my mood, my state of mind, my intentions?

A — Alchemy
Alchemy is the quiet turning of feeling into insight, and insight into gratitude or grace. It asks me to trust that even discomfort may be carrying a lesson.

What feeling is lingering, and what is it trying to teach me, or perhaps change in me?

R — Risk
Risk asks for bravery on the page. Not performance, but honesty. Not spectacle, but the courage to say what is true.

If I were 10% braver on the page, what would I admit or explore today?

K — Kindling
Kindling is the smallest beginning, the ember that might become a steady fire. It is often humble, but never unimportant.

What idea or thought is burning or building or wanting to come onto the page?

Walking With New Companions

I am especially delighted in the company of these new companions. Story, Presence, Alchemy, Risk, and Kindling feel less like instructions and more like fellow travelers, each carrying a different tool for the climb. One offers a map, another a match, another a brave and steady hand.

If SPARK has been circling your day as it has mine, perhaps you might welcome it to the page and see what it illuminates. You need not force a grand revelation. A sentence will do. A list. A question. A scrap of truth. Sometimes that is how the path begins to glow.

A Gentle Invitation

Tonight, or whenever you next open your journal, choose one letter from S.P.A.R.K. and let it guide your hand. Follow the ember. See what answers. And if you wish for a place to keep gathering such flickers, you are always welcome to explore the journals waiting in the shop.
